The city of Essaouira is located at 170 km of the town of Marrakech. It is a harbour city of Morocco on the Atlantic coast. Old Portuguese city, known under the name Mogador. At the XVI century, the town of Essaouira was occupied by Portuguese. Its old medina is registered on the List of the world inheritance of UNESCO. It still keeps the traces of the Portuguese occupation: the guns pointed towards the oceans, houses, the walls which surrounds old the medina.
The city of Essaouira is especially known by the festival of Gnaoua music, its painters and its parquetry. One of the principal economic activities of the city is fishing. But also it is known by its woodcarvings on the money and bronze. Once at Essaouira to taste the famous tagine of Souiri fish to the oil of Argan.
